Delegation Packing List

**Include a change of clothes, vital toiletries, and any medication in a carry on bag in case your luggage is lost or arrives late.

Items to Bring

Please do not come without:

  • Debit/credit card – ATM machines are the best way to access Guatemalan currency
  • Health insurance card/information
  • Passport & a photocopy of your passport
  • Prescription medicines
  • Extra glasses and/or contacts and contact lens solution and case
  • Water bottle
  • Notebook and pens
  • Alarm clock and/or watch
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellant

Also Recommended:

  • Smaller overnight travel bag for trip outside of Guatemala City
  • Compact umbrella or other rain gear
  • Non-prescription meds such as Tylenol, Tums, chewable Pepto Bismal tablets, etc. (Pharmacies in Guatemala are prevalent and well-stocked but best to come prepared.) Definitely bring Dramamine if you are prone to motion sickness.
  • Hand sanitizer/hand-wipes
  • Pocket packs of tissue paper
  • Small flashlight
  • Camera, charger, & memory cards
  • Your favorite non-perishable snacks- especially important if you have dietary restrictions
  • Small Spanish dictionary or phrase book
  • A book
  • Money belt or neck pouch that goes under clothes to carry cash, credit cards and passport
  • toiletries

 

Clothes to Pack

Short sleeve shirts/t-shirts

Long sleeve shirt(s)

Light sweater, sweatshirt or jacket

Rain poncho or rain-resistant light jacket

Long pants

One “professional” outfit for Embassy meeting

Socks, underwear (expect not to do laundry)

Sturdy walking shoes (water resistant, if possible).

One pair of nicer shoes for embassy meeting

Flip-flops for showering

Sunglasses and hat

Bandanas

Earplugs (optional)

Women: sanitary pads or tampons (if you prefer a special brand)
