Amanda Martin joined GHRC in July 2008. She moved from Colombia, South America where she spent 3 years working with Witness for Peace to change US policy by leading delegations focused on the impacts of Plan Colombia and US sponsored fumigations. Amanda also worked in Bolivia in 2000, researching US drug policy and working with micro enterprise projects in a women’s prison. She began her Latin America work, however, in Guatemala in 1993, where she served as a Peace Corps Volunteer for 3 years in Suchitepequez. She earned two master’s degrees in Social Work and Public Health in 2003 from the University of South Carolina, where she served as the Director of a statewide peace and justice organization and a Spanish language interpreter. Program Associate
Kelsey Alford-Jones joined GHRC in September of 2008. She came to Washington from Portland, Oregon, where she taught History and Language Arts at a bilingual alternative school for Latino students and worked as a medical interpreter. She moved to rural Costa Rica in 2006 to coordinate and develop an Environmental Education Program at the Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center, a small community non-profit. When not working on issues of social and environmental justice, Kelsey plays violin with the Pan American Symphony Orchestra and enjoys salsa dancing, biking, and other outdoor activities.
